Running an average of a marathon a day with an artificial leg, Terry covered 5,373 kilometres before cancer forced him to stop near Thunder Bay, Ontario.
Although Terry could not complete his journey, his determination inspired millions of Canadians. The first Terry Fox Run was held in 1981, and the movement has continued for more than four decades. In 2026, the Terry Fox Foundation announced that its fundraising had surpassed $1 billion for cancer research, demonstrating the lasting impact of Terry’s vision.
